Royal Academy of Fine Arts Saint Fernando, 140 years of diplomatic relations between the Kingdom of Spain and Romania.
Organizers: Embassy of Romania and the Romanian Cultural Institute
In 1880, Spain recognized Romania’s independence and a year later, in June 1881, it opened its first Legation in Bucharest, officially marking the beginning of diplomatic relations between the two countries.
In Madrid, more precisely in the sumptuous Hall of the Royal Academy of Fine Arts San Fernando, the Chamber Orchestra Quartet concert – with pieces from the musical repertoire of the two nations – marked this round of diplomatic celebration of 140 years of friendship between Spain and Romania proving once again (if it was needed) that a high-class Ambassador was, is and always will be: CULTURE. She reminds us with genuine nobility and deep generosity that everything that unites us is more powerful than what can separate us at any given moment.
At the end of the event, a wandering thought ran to Andalusian Seville, the city that gave humanity the Roman emperor, Trajan, who we often forget was of Iberian blood. How would we look today without the Roman conquest that sealed our national destiny almost two thousand years ago? The result of that ethnogenesis is also us, those of today, whether we live in Romania or came to turn the wheel of history in Spain.
Congratulations to the Romanian Cultural Institute and the Embassy of our Country in the Kingdom of Spain for this event that provided moments of joy and colorful emotions in the rather gray times of our post-pandemic transition life. Thanks to the organizers for the invitation!
